Daily Lit: Asbury Music Awards

We loved The Asbury Music Awards and are so proud of all our friends who performed and won awards! This photo and write up are from The Asbury Park Press.

ASBURY PARK — Some of the biggest and brightest talents of the city’s music scene were recognized Sunday at the 19th annual Asbury Music Awards, presented by the Saint and the Asbury Music Company at the Stone Pony on Ocean Avenue.

Among the night’s first big winners was Emily Grove of Wall, who took home the award for Top Female Acoustic Act.

“I did not expect this, so I did not prepare a speech,” Grove said following her win.

Grove expressed her love and respect for her fellow nominees. “They’re all my friends, and I love all of them, everyone in this category and everyone in this scene,” she said.

The victory marked Grove’s first Asbury Music Award, she said later in the night. “I work very hard, so I’m glad they appreciate me,” she said.

This year’s ceremony featured more than 25 categories and, according to Scott Stamper, co-founder of the awards and co-owner of the Saint on Main Street, the diversity of the local music community made that a necessity.

“I was trying to scale things back, but there are so many people involved, so many different genres and media and it is what it is, it can’t get scaled back,” Stamper said.
